Antigua Guatemala

 Culture, food and colors.

The City of Antigua Guatemala is located just 40 kilometers, approximately 1 hour, away from the International Airport La Aurora. It is a main icon of the Hispanic colonial heritage and it was designated as a “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO in 1979. It is rounded by three volcanoes and mountains with coffee plantations. “La Antigua” has cobblestone streets and ancestral edifications reflecting the heritage of the Hispanic colonial era. There are many activities people can enjoy, for example, visiting the Mercado de Artesanías (Handcraft Market), the Ruinas de la Compañía de Jesús (Ruins of the Society of Jesus), Ruinas del Convento de la Recolección (La Recolección Convent Ruins), Cerro de la Cruz (Hill of the Cross), Convento de Capuchinas (Capuchinas Convent), among other activities.

Guatemala City is the capital of the country. It is considered as one of the most modern cities in Central America with edifications and business centers, making it an ideal place to have congresses and conventions. There are many activities people can do in the city, like visiting the different malls, among which are Oakland Mall, Pradera Concepción, Miraflores and Arkadia; visiting the handcraft market, museums and La Aurora Zoo. There are also different entertainment areas like Zona Viva, Paseo Cayalá, Cuatro Grados Norte and Paseo la Sexta with coffee shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. In order to know the history and the past of Guatemala, people can visit places like the Ecological Park Kaminal Juyú and the Historic Center, where the Cathedral, the National Palace and the central park and market can be seen.

Atitlan

Lake Atitlán, located in the department of Sololá, is approximately 140 km away from the International Airport La Aurora. It is surrounded by three volcanoes (Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro) and scenic towns like Panajachel where the famous “Santander” street is located in which people can visit the Handcraft Market, different restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs. Lake Atitlán is considered one of the most visited touristic attractions in Guatemala, different activities can be done there like canopy, boat rides, camping, and hiking volcanoes.

Tikal

 Explore the Mayan culture.

The Department of Petén is approximately 500km away from the International Airport La Aurora. In Petén there are the places that are the scenario of the development of the Mayan Civilization which is known by its archeological, fauna and biosphere richness.
Among the archeological sites there is the Tikal National Park, declared as Natural and Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1979. There are also the Parks Yaxhá, Ceibal Aguateca, San Bartolo and El Mirador, in the last one there is the highest pyramid of the Mayan World. All these sites are sheltered by a majestic tropical forest where hundreds of fauna and flora species live.

Cobán

 Visit Cobán

Cobán is the capital of the department of Alta Verapaz and is approximately 200 km away from the International Airport La Aurora. It characterizes by its lush forests, waterfalls, natural pools, and diverse flora and fauna species including more than 800 orchid species. There are many activities to do in Cobán, like visiting the Quetzal Biotope where the national bird “Quetzal” can be seen; also taking a tour through the caves Lankín or Candelaria. One of the main attractions is Semuch Champey, a natural stone bridge that holds many turquoise water holes where people can swim, and under the water holes the river Cahabón runs and there you can go rafting.

Izabal

 Feel the Caribbean style.

The Department of Izabal is approximately 200 km away from the international Airport La Aurora. It is formed by five townships, among which are Puerto Barrios and Livingston. Izabal is a region that characterizes by its garífuna culture and rich ecosystems where nature reserves are like Río Dulce, Bocas del Polochic, Punta Manabique and the Chocón Machacas Biotope. It also has the archeological site of Quiriguá, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and San Felipe Castle located on the mouth of Dulce river with Lake Izabal.

Retalhuleu

 Nature and Fun.

The Department of Retalhuleu is approximately 190km away from the International Airport La Aurora. In this region people can see coffee plantations, watch birds, visit important archeological sites like the Archeological Park Takalik Ab Aj, the Cueva del Encanto (Charm Cave), and the Archeological Museum of Horacio Alejos León. There are also recreation centers that provide quality time and entertainment for all the family, like the Aquatic Park Xocomil, the Amusement Park Xetulul, and Dino Park. People can also visit black sand beaches like Champerico Beach and Manchón Beach where different hotels and restaurants are located.
